Background
We
recently helped an India based Global IT Services firm automate their Workforce
Competency and Career Planning business process by implementing PeopleSoft Manage
Profile and Plan Career module
Business Issue
The
customer has a headcount of 35,000+ across several Business Units and around
1000+ Job Codes. Based on extensive workshop conducted by SOAIS implementation
team, HR transformation team decided to define the Job Profiles for each of the
existing 1000+ Job Codes.
These
Job Codes are grouped by Job Families. The Job Profiles within a particular Job
Family naturally shared similar content in terms of responsibilities,
competencies, skills and accomplishments. Also all Job Codes are associated
with Salary Administration Plan, Grade and Step.
SOAIS Solution
Profile
Group Types and Profile Groups configuration which otherwise would not add much
value to an organization of smaller size or with less diverse jobs became very
important for our customer.
The
Profile Group Type enables an organization to identify a group and valid
profile types for that group. The Profile Group is an instance of the group
type and specifies which profile IDs are members of this group.
For
our customer, the Profile Group Types for Non-Person/Job Profiles were created
based on Job Family and Grade using the Profile Identity Option Job Code. For
Person Profiles the Profile Group Types were created using Group Build. The
groups were based on Business Units and Locations.

Customer Benefits
Configuration of Profile Group Type and Profile Group accrued tremendous usability gain for the customer
Find below the snapshot of some selective scenarios of usability gain
1. Searching for Non-person/Job Profiles
2.Creating a new Job profile which is part of the Job Family for which other Job Profiles are already available in the organization
